A damage claim is only as strong as the contract behind it. This lookup lists every rental terms document RentalProof reads claims against: the company, the country, a direct link to the published document and the date it was last checked. Pick the country where you picked up the car, open the document of the company that billed you and look for the clauses on return, inspection, excess and fees.

Two tips before you read. First, the terms that apply are usually the version in force on the day you booked, so keep the copy you received at booking if it differs. Second, look for what is missing as much as for what is there: a claim that relies on a key-box rule, a flat fee or a deadline that the terms do not contain has a problem. The [country guides](https://rentalproof.eu/damage-claims) explain which clauses consumer law does not accept.

One honest limit: this only helps when the damage was not caused during your rental. If it was, the amount can still be checked. General information, not legal advice. RentalProof is not a law firm and is not affiliated with any rental company. Every statute and case on this page links to the source it was checked against.
